How can I avoid paying import costs?
Since 1 July 2026, new customs rules apply to parcels arriving from outside the European Union (EU). As a result, VAT and import duties may apply to many shipments.
The easiest way to avoid unexpected costs is to check before you order. To reduce the risk of additional charges, we recommend that you:
Order from a webshop that includes VAT and import costs at checkout.
- You pay one total price upfront
- You avoid additional charges when your parcel arrives
- These webshops usually mention that VAT or import costs are included
Order from a webshop that ships from a country within the European Union
- No import costs apply to these purchases.
- Please note: the United Kingdom is no longer part of the EU.
Important to know
If VAT and import costs are not paid in advance, you may have to pay them when your parcel is imported.
These costs can include:
- VAT
- Import duties
- Customs administration costs
For shipments with a value above €150, import costs usually apply when the parcel arrives.
Tip
Always check at checkout whether VAT and import costs are included. This is the easiest way to avoid surprises.
