How does a money transfer with Ria work?
You can send money with Ria Money Transfer in five easy steps:
  • You complete the ‘Send Money’ form.
  • You give the form to the counter clerk together with your identity document and the money.
  • You sign as correct and get a receipt that states the PIN code of your transaction.
  • You contact your addressee and communicate the PIN code that he or she needs to pick up the money.
  • Your addressee picks up the cash at a Ria agency with the PIN code and his or her identity document.
What are my possibilities to send money with Ria?
You can send and receive money from and to anywhere in the world with Ria Money Transfer. You can:
  • send cash that your addressee picks up as cash.
  • send cash to your addressee's bank account. That option is not available in every country of destination.
  • send cash to your addressee's virtual mobile account. That option is not available in every country of destination.
The counter clerk in your Post Office will tell you how your addressee can receive the money in the country where he or she lives or is staying.
Which contact details of the sender and the addressee do I have to give?
You only have to give the first and last name of your addressee and your own mobile phone number.
Do I have to know which country or which city I am sending money to?
You must always know which country you are sending money to. Depending on the country, you must also indicate where (in which Ria agency and which city) your addressee will pick up the money. The counter clerk in your Post Office will tell you which countries require you to choose a Ria agency.
Can I send cash and have it transferred?
You can send cash with Ria Money Transfer: you pay the amount in cash at the counter. You can have the money deposited on the bank account of your addressee in some countries. For that, you need your addressee's account number (IBAN for Europe) and the name and BIC code of his or her bank. The counter clerk in your Post Office will tell you which countries allow this.
Please note: you cannot transfer cash to a bank account in Belgium. Your addressee must pick up the cash at a Post Office or Ria agency.
Can I transfer money anonymously with Ria?
You cannot transfer money anonymously with Ria Money Transfer. You must prove your identity with a valid identity document for every money transfer.
How long does it take before the money is transferred and can be picked up?
When you send money with Ria Money Transfer, the addressee can pick up the money a few minutes later. As soon as the recipient has received the transaction PIN code, he or she can pick up the money in a Ria agency. Always take the time difference in the destination country into account and the opening hours of the Ria agency over there.
How will I know if my addressee picked up the money?
You can call Ria Money Transfer customer service to ask if your recipient has picked up the money.
Can I get a fiscal attestation?
You can get a fiscal attestation for all money transfers that you have done. You request that attestation from the Customer Care Center of Ria Money Transfer: 02 588 24 14.
Will I receive proof that the money was sent and picked up?
When you hand over the money, the counter clerk in the Post Office will immediately give you a paper proof of remittance with the PIN code of your transfer. If you want to know whether the money was picked up, you must phone the Customer Care Center of Ria Money Transfer on the number 02 588 24 14.
Can I use the receipt in legal proceedings?
The receipt that the sender gets can be used as a legal document.
Do I have to have an address to use Ria?
The counter clerk in your Post Office uses the address that is on your identity document or the address that you indicate and confirm when signing the money transfer form.
Will I get a document with the number of the transfer?
You get a proof of remittance with the PIN code of your transfer for each money transfer.
Does Ria Money Transfer have an app that I can use to register the transaction?
Ria Money Transfer does not have an app to register the money transfer.
Can I use the receipt in legal proceedings?

Can I do a professional transaction with Ria?
You can only send money in your own name with Ria Money Transfer. You cannot use the name of your company or the name of another company.
Can I send cash and allow the addressee to receive cash?
With Ria Money Transfer, you can pay the amount that you want to send in cash at the counter. Your addressee can pick up the cash within 40 days at a Ria agency using a PIN code.
Does Ria only work with cash, or can I also use a bank card, credit card or bank transfer?
You pay a Ria Money Transfer with cash or with Bancontact in your Post Office.
Can I transfer money without an account number?
You can transfer money with Ria Money Transfer even if you don't have an account number. The counter clerk in your Post Office will help you.
Is sending money with Ria safe?
Absolutely. Your addressee can only withdraw the money with a unique PIN code and his or her identity document. Every money transfer is registered by a globally recognised security system.
What is my guarantee that the money will arrive?
Two safeguards guarantee that the money will arrive:
  • You get a unique PIN code that you communicate to your addressee. The recipient can only pick up the money with that PIN code.
  • Your addressee must identify himself or herself with an identity document to collect your money.
Be careful when communicating the PIN code; only give it to your addressee.
What are the advantages of sending cash with Ria?
Sending cash with Ria Money Transfer has four major advantages. It is:

How can I be sure that the money arrives in the hands of the correct person?
You must indicate the correct first and last name of your addressee at the counter of your Post Office. With the unique PIN code that you communicate to the addressee, you are sure that the money arrives in the hands of the correct person.

What if I want to stop/cancel the transaction?
You can stop or cancel the money transfer if your addressee has not picked up the money. You must do this in the Post Office or Ria agency where you sent the money.
Can I send money using home banking?
It is not possible to send money using home banking. You can send money using the Ria Money Transfer website.
Can I send money in every Post Office and Post Point?
You can send money with Ria Money Transfer in every Post Office in Belgium. That is still not possible in our Post Points.
