Privacy notice – parcel receivers
In principle, parcels that you receive from a sender within the European Union do not have to go through customs. However, Belgian customs can screen these shipments exceptionally. Some regions of the EU are subject to customs duties and VAT. This is because they are not part of the customs territory of the EU, even though they are part of the geographical territory of the EU (e.g., the Canary Islands). Always check the country of origin of your parcel. Something you order from a European webshop can also come from outside the European Union. In that case, you will have to pay any customs charges in advance via the My bpost app or via Track & Trace. You can always refuse these extra costs. Your parcel will then be returned to the sender.
Quick & easy-to-use platform for small and medium senders
When a parcel from outside the European Union arrives in Belgium, it is handed over to the bpost customs clearance service, which prepares it for customs clearance. The process is as follows: , 1. Clearance of the parcel , If VAT on your parcel has been paid in advance via the webshop, it will be immediately handed over to customs. If not, it will be cleared through customs first. This includes the calculation of customs duties, VAT and any other fees (like anti-dumping duties and environmental duties). As of July 1, 2021, this applies to all shipments, regardless of their value.  More information about the customs rules. As the recipient, you must pay these import costs in advance via the My bpost app or via Track & Trace. You will receive an email, text message or letter with a payment invitation. , 2. Security check , Customs performs a security check on all goods arriving in Belgium from outside the European Union. Customs checks whether the goods can be imported to Belgium. If not (e.g. counterfeit goods, weapons or medicine), customs blocks your parcel. If so, your parcel is cleared and will be released. , 3. Delivery of the parcel , As soon as customs clears the goods, bpost takes care of delivery. Bear in mind that the whole process can take several days. You can track the status of your parcel via Track & Trace. You will be notified if any further formalities need to be completed.
I was not home when the postman passed by. Where is my parcel now? What happens to your parcel depends on your delivery preferences. You can specify delivery preferences in MyPreferences or the My bpost app . , I have already specified my delivery preferences , If you are not home at the time of delivery, we will deliver your parcel according to your delivery preferences: to a neighbour, a safe place or a Pick-up Point. , I have not specified my delivery preferences , In that case, the postman will generally try to deliver your parcel to a neighbour or in a safe place. If that doesn’t work, you will receive a failed delivery notice in your letterbox. You or someone else can pick up the parcel at the Pick-up Point mentioned on the notice within 14 calendar days. Take into account that the Pick-up Point can still change. As soon as your parcel is at a Pick-up Point, the status of your shipment is adjusted on Track & Trace and you receive an email. Be sure to check the status of your parcel before going to the Pick-up Point.
The original sender of your parcel determines whether you must be able to present a proof of shipment to get the money from your purchase back. The barcode on the label is scanned in the Post Office or Post Point to send the parcel, or the postman taking your parcel scans the label for shipment. The original sender sees when the parcel is scanned in our Track & Trace tool. You can always take a screenshot of the Track & Trace tool or the My bpost app and e-mail it as proof. If you purchase a shipping label in a Post Office or Post Point, then you can request a Shipping Receipt and mail a copy to the original sender. You can request a confirmation of receipt via text message or e-mail either online or in your Post Office or Post Point with the 'confirmation of receipt' option. As soon as your return shipment is delivered or picked up at a Pick-up point, you will receive an e-mail or text message. If none of this is sufficient for the sender as proof, please contact our customer service.
General Terms and Conditions regarding bpost service.
If you see the cancelled purchase in “Pending transaction” on the My bpaid portal, it means that the merchant has put a hold on the amount. That gives the merchant peace of mind that it can claim some of the costs in the event of cancellation. Examples are when you book a hotel room or hire a car. The hold is automatically lifted within 30 days. The amount becomes available again as soon as the hold is lifted. You can ask for the hold to be lifted if this is not done within 30 days. To do so, follow the steps below. Ask the merchant to send you the following: An authorization code (comprising five or six digits or letters) showing that funds have been transferred from an account) Confirmation (in an email, for example) that the merchant agrees to release the hold. Once you have received the authorization code and confirmation, fill out our online form (you cannot do this without the authorization code, the confirmation and your card number). You can find this form in the bpaid app and on the My bpaid website.
