In most cases an online shop or sender will let you know which barcode you can use to follow your shipment online. In some cases, items are shipped without tracking. Examples include small items that fit in an envelope (a small cable, accessories, etc.) If this shipment comes from outside the EU, it will go through the import procedure upon arrival in Belgium. This shipment without tracing receives a barcode that starts with the letter 'U'. This allows you to pay the import costs via the My bpost app or Track & Trace. Once the import procedure has been completed, the status of this barcode (which starts with 'U') will no longer change. It will become a shipment without tracking once again, until it is delivered to you. Please remain alert for suspicious messages. Are you expecting a shipment? Could the text message or email you received be phishing? To be sure, check the barcode in the My bpost app or via Track & Trace. You can also find photos of your shipment there. If a payment is requested there as well, you can be sure that the shipment is destined for you.
There are alternatives if you do not want a photo to be taken of your ID card during the delivery of registered mail. You can also have a photo taken of something else that proves who you are. It must always be issued by an official body or agency and it must include your full name and a photo that is clearly recognisable as you. Examples are a passport, a driving licence or a train or bus pass. You can also ask the person delivering to note down your full name and ID card number on the missed delivery notice and take a photo of that. Or ask him or her to hand your registered mail in at the post office of post point. When you go there to pick it up, you will again be asked to allow a photo to be taken of your ID card. You can then ask the person at the counter to note down your full name and ID card number and take a photo of that instead. You can also set up a last-minute mandate in the My bpost app under ‘delivery preferences’. You will receive a QR code you or someone else can use to take receipt of the registered mail item.

Do I need to pay import costs for a gift?
FAQ
Residential
In certain cases, a parcel received from outside the EU can be exempt from import costs. We then speak of a gift. Your parcel must meet the following conditions: The sender is a private person (e.g. family member, friend, acquaintance). A parcel from an online shop is never considered a gift (even if it says gift on the package). The contents of the parcel are for personal use. If the parcel contains alcoholic products, tea, coffee, perfume, eau de toilette, tobacco or tobacco products, the excise duty-free quantity is not exceeded. More detailed information can be found in the related Royal Decree . The value of the shipment does not exceed €45. If the total value of your shipment exceeds €45 and consists of several goods, you can get a partial exemption for the goods that (on their own or together) are worth max €45. (See table) As the recipient, you have not paid for the parcel. It is important that the sender declares the shipment as a gift on the customs form (CN22 or CN23).
, Please note
, : if your parcel meets all the requirements and you are still charged import costs, you can dispute these costs and apply for an exemption . My gift consists of: Maximum exemption
