Why do I have to pay customs formalities on all shipments from outside the EU worth more than €150?
FAQResidential
For purchases outside the EU with a value of €150 or more, the online shop is not allowed to collect the VAT. This must be done on arrival in Belgium. That is why, in addition to VAT and any import duties, you also have to pay customs formalities for the clearance of your shipment. For this type of shipment the cost is €40. An example: You buy a piece of jewellery for €160 outside the EU. In addition to this, you will have to pay: Import costs: €40 VAT (21%): €41.79 This brings the total cost of the piece of jewellery to €241.79 (= €160 + €40 + €41.79)
If Track & Trace indicates that bpost has received your shipment, you will receive it within a maximum of 5 working days. If the shipment has not arrived after 10 working days, you can file a complaint with the sender. The sender can decide whether to refund the purchase (partially) or reship your order. As there is no tracking of the shipment, there is no compensation possible from bpost.
, Tip:
, when buying outside the EU, always opt for a tracked shipment and preferably buy from webshops that ask you to pay VAT in advance. This limits your costs and risks (import costs cannot be recovered in case of loss or damage) and speeds up the delivery time.

(Tip: Via the My bpost app and Track & Trace you can immediately see if your parcel has been delivered.) Check regularly that your bell is still working properly. If the postman regularly fails to ring your bell, please report this by filling out our online form . We will ask for your contact details so that we can discuss this with the right postman.
