By default, that compensation includes a refund of the shipping fees. If you choose the 'Guarantee and signature' option, then you are entitled to compensation for goods and for documents. This option does not exist for international returns. If the original sender pays for the return shipment, then he/she is entitled to compensation. I received a suspicious text message or email, allegedly from bpost. What should I do?
FAQ
Residential
You may receive an email or text message that appears to be from bpost. It might look real, but it was not sent by us. These emails or texts are fraudulent messages, also known as phishing, sent by scammers. The following tips will help you recognize phishing and will inform you about what to do with these types of messages.
, Do not believe every text message or e-mail and don't just enter your personal details
, First of all, ask yourself whether you are expecting a parcel. For shipments within the EU, bpost will never ask you to pay when your parcel is in transit (e.g. to avoid extra costs), or to provide personal information by e-mail or text message. Furthermore, bpost will never threaten to send a bailiff if you don't pay for your parcel. Only enter personal details if you are 100% sure that you are dealing with bpost. We will never ask you for personal information via e-mail or text message.
, Check the web address
, A fraudulent email or text message usually contains a link or button that goes to an untrustworthy website. You can check the URL by hovering over the link with your mouse. The web address will then appear at the bottom left of your browser. If you do not recognize the address immediately, do not click the link.
, Help prevent phishing
, Forward suspicious messages to abuse@bpost.be . This way, you will help prevent others from becoming victims of scammers.
My parcel is from outside the EU. What process does it have to go through before I can receive it?
FAQ
Residential
When a parcel from outside the European Union arrives in Belgium, it is handed over to the bpost customs clearance service, which prepares it for customs clearance. The process is as follows:
, 1. Clearance of the parcel
, If VAT on your parcel has been paid in advance via the webshop, it will be immediately handed over to customs. If not, it will be cleared through customs first. This includes the calculation of customs duties, VAT and any other fees (like anti-dumping duties and environmental duties). As the recipient, you must pay these import costs in advance via the My bpost app or via Track & Trace. You will receive an email, text message or letter with a payment invitation.
, 2. Security check
, Customs performs a security check on all goods arriving in Belgium from outside the European Union. Customs checks whether the goods can be imported to Belgium. If not (e.g. counterfeit goods, weapons or medicine), customs blocks your parcel. If your shipment is subject to inspection, please allow for an additional 3 to 7 days.
, 3. Delivery of the parcel
, As soon as customs clears the goods, bpost takes care of delivery. Bear in mind that the whole process can take several days. You can track the status of your parcel via Track & Trace. You will be notified if any further formalities need to be completed.
The delivery address on my parcel is wrong. Now what?
FAQ
Residential
The address listed in Track & Trace or the My bpost app is based on the address provided by the sender to bpost.
, The address is not my current address
, Unfortunately, we cannot change it. The shipment will be delivered to the address indicated. Check whether your profile details are up to date in the online shop where you placed an order.
, The address is wrong or incomplete
, If you notice that the delivery address is wrong or incomplete, you can still modify it in the My bpost app or in Track & Trace. Provided that: Your parcel has not yet arrived at our sorting centre. Both the correct and incorrect address share the same postal code. The delivery address is not a Pick-up point. Your parcel is sent from Belgium.
, Tip:
, always check that your address details are up to date when ordering from an online store.
, I cannot change the delivery address (anymore)
, Don't worry, when your shipment is en route for delivery, our postmen are asked to compare the address with the one printed on the shipping label. If we cannot find the address or match it, we will return your shipment to the sender. You will be notified of this in Track & Trace and the My bpost app. In this case, contact the sender to determine what steps should be taken.
, My shipment comes from outside the EU
, If you see a wrong address during the import procedure and receive an invitation to pay the import costs, it is best to refuse the shipment. This is because we cannot guarantee that the shipment will be delivered correctly and you cannot get a refund for the import costs.
