What can I use the My bpost app for?
FAQResidential
The My bpost app is your gateway to various bpost services. You can track parcels, set your delivery preferences, settle import charges and so much more…
, See the status of parcels in Track & Trace
, You can track all your parcels in the app. That includes parcels delivered by other companies. Most bpost parcels are shown automatically in the app. You can add other parcels by scanning the barcode or manually entering the barcode number. You receive status updates to ensure you always know where your parcel is. You can choose which parcels you want to receive status updates for.
, Set your delivery preferences for parcels
, In the delivery preferences you can choose where a parcel is left if you are not home up to five minutes before delivery: your preferred neighbour a safe place in or around your home your preferred pick-up point You can also have your parcel delivered straight to a pick-up point or parcel locker.
, Set your delivery preferences for registered mail
, In the app you can also set as your preference that registered mail is delivered to your letterbox without you having to sign for it. You receive an email as soon as a registered mail item is delivered to your letterbox. You need your ID card to activate this service in the app.
, Create a shipping label
, You always need to affix a shipping label to parcels before dropping them off for shipment. You can create and pay for shipping labels in the app. You can then print the shipping label at home or at a post office or post point.
, Settle import charges
, When receiving parcels from outside the EU you will generally have to pay import charges. You can settle these charges securely in the My bpost app.
, Open screenless Parcel Lockers
, You can use our screenless Parcel Lockers to send, receive or return parcels. To open these Parcel Lockers you need to use the My bpost app.

Why hasn't my international shipment been delivered?
FAQResidential
If your shipment has the status "On the way to Belgium", it has not arrived in Belgium yet. The delivery periods of a foreign shipment to Belgium vary from country to country. You can find out how long it takes on average for your parcel to arrive in Belgium via Track & Trace. This period is based on previous shipments coming from this country.
, My parcel comes from inside the European Union
, here is no default import procedure. If it wants to, customs can check shipments from inside the European Union.
, My parcel comes from outside the European Union (+United Kingdom)
, In this case an import procedure for your parcel will start upon its arrival in Belgium. The duration of this procedure depends on the following: Whether or not you already paid VAT on your shipment via the online shop The value of your shipment If you did not pay any VAT in advance or your shipment is worth more than €150, the bpost customs clearance service must first determine the import costs. To do this, the value of the contents of your shipment must be known (based on the invoice). If this is not provided, bpost will ask you to upload the invoice of your purchase online. You have 14 days to pay the import costs (VAT, import duties or any other customs fees and formalities). The sooner you do this, the sooner your shipment will be released. Most shipments are cleared within a week. In this phase, your goods are declared to Belgian customs. Customs has the right to check the content of your shipment. Please allow an additional 3 to 7 days for delivery in case of extra inspections. This period depends on any additional inspections by government agencies (e.g. for plants or food). If your shipment is not cleared, you will be notified (e.g. a permit is missing or the contents of your shipment are subject to import restrictions). The import procedure is completed once customs has released your shipment. Your shipment is then handed over to bpost, and you will receive it a few days later.
If you are not home, the postman will leave a failed delivery notice. This document clearly indicates where you can pick up your registered mail and the dates and times when. Someone else can take receipt of your registered mail at your home or pick it up at the Post office or Post Point. You do have to give that person a mandate. This is how you do that:
, Set up a mandate in the My bpost app
, You will receive a notification in the app or by email about new incoming registered mail, provided you haven’t turned off notifications. So if you won’t be home, you’ll still have time to set up a proxy. Open the app and tap first ‘More’, then ‘delivery preferences’. Tap ‘registered mail’ and choose your preferred mandate: ‘last minute’ or ‘classic’. Identify yourself (with itsme or with your ID card) and follow the steps. You will receive a QR code, which you can pass on to the person of your choosing. This person simply shows this QR code during delivery. If you set up a classical mandate, they will also have to present their ID card.
, Set up a mandate on your missing delivery notification
, If you are not home and you have not set any delivery preferences, we will leave a failed delivery notice. You can set up a proxy using this notification: Simply add the requested details on the rear and sign. Give this to the person you choose, along with a copy of the front and back of your ID card. To take receipt of the registered mail from the mail carrier or at the Post Office counter this person presents: Their own ID card; The failed delivery notice as completed and signed by you; The copy of the back and front of your ID card.
, Set up a mandate using a written postal proxy
, You can also fill out this postal proxy form . Again, to take receipt of the registered mail from the mail carrier or at the Post Office counter this person presents: Their own ID card; The failed delivery notice as completed and signed by you; The copy of the back and front of your ID card.
There are several reasons why your parcel was not delivered according to your preference.
, Your profile is not yet complete.
, Your delivery preferences are linked to the email address you entered in your ‘MyPreferences’ account or the My bpost app. Perhaps the parcel was ordered with a different email address than the one entered in MyPreferences.
, Tip:
, Check your profile in MyPreferences A green “V” appears next to your address if your account is validated (10 days after creation). Make sure your address is correct. Add the names you use to order parcels. Add all email addresses you use to order parcels.
, No email address received from sender
, It is also possible that the sender did not provide us with your email address. Unless you have not agreed to this, we will link your delivery preference to the name or address on your parcel (as of 10 days after the account was created). They must be identical to your name and the address in your account.
, The type of parcel prevented us from delivering according to your delivery preference
, Delivery to your safe place and your neighbour is not possible for: Parcels with payment upon delivery (e.g. a number plate). Parcels you can only receive after showing your secure delivery code. Parcels sent as registered mail. We can only deliver these on presentation of your ID card. You can recognise such parcels by the barcode that starts with an ‘R’. Parcels sent under guarantee or with insurance cannot be delivered to a safe place. Delivery to a Parcel Locker is not possible: If the parcel is too large or too heavy. In that case, it will be sent to a different Pick-up Point. For parcels you can only receive after showing your secure delivery code. Your parcel fits in your letterbox: The postman always tries to deliver your parcel into your letterbox first, even in the case of direct delivery to a Pick-up Point.
, Tip:
, Check Track & Trace to see if the delivery preferences apply to your parcel.
, The postman could not perform the delivery preference
, Your safe place was not safe enough, not accessible and/or not dry enough. The postman was unable to deliver your parcel to a neighbour because they were not at home or refused to accept it. Your Pick-up Point or Parcel Locker was temporarily unavailable when we delivered your parcel. For example, because the Parcel Locker was full or the Post Point was closed for annual leave.
, Tip
, : have you noticed this happening on a regular basis? Then modify your delivery preferences. If you think there is another reason, you can report it via our online form .
How are import costs calculated?
FAQResidential
The costs to import goods from outside the EU consist of 3 parts:
, VAT
, For all goods coming from outside the EU, a percentage of VAT on the value of the goods must be paid. This percentage varies between 6% (books) and 21% (electronic products). Please note that the VAT due for importing goods is calculated not only on the price you paid to the seller but also on certain additional costs such as shipping costs and the administrative fee charged by bpost for completing customs formalities.
,
,
, Custom duties
, For certain categories of goods you have to pay customs duties. These are also represented by a percentage. For some goods (e.g. jeans), you pay up to 12% duty. For other goods you do not pay duty (e.g. books).
, Customs formalities or administrative fees
, The bpost customs clearance service charges administrative fees for the costs incurred during the import procedure if: the VAT was not paid in advance in a registered online shop (Import One-Stop Shop or IOSS) the value of the goods is more than €150 These costs include: the calculation of import taxes transferring the taxes to the government requesting additional missing information (e.g. licenses or invoices) storage costs From 1st January 2025, bpost will charge the following fees for customs formalities: 0 euro for private shipments with a value of up to €45. In this case, the sender has to prove that the shipment is a gift. (Please note: alcoholic products, perfume, toilet water, tobacco and tobacco products are subject to fees, even if they are gifts). 19.5 euros for customs formalities regarding non-exempted items with a maximum value of 150 euros. 40 euros for customs formalities regarding non-exempted items with a value over 150 euros.
, A numerical example
, Purchase of a T-shirt on a website in the United States of America Value incl. shipping costs: 40 euros Cost of customs formalities: 19.5 euros Import duties: 0 euros (because < 150 euros) Applicable VAT rate: 21% Measure of charge for VAT: 40 euros + 19.5 euros = 59.5 euros VAT amount due: 59.5 * 21% = 12.50 euros Payable to bpost: 32 euros (VAT: 12.50 euros + customs formalities: 19.5 euros)
, Total cost of your purchase: 40 euros (T-shirt) + 19.5 euros (customs formalities) + 12.50 euros (VAT) = 72 euros
, More information on the applicable tax rates and on how to calculate the import costs . TIP! Are you shopping in a non-EU webshop and want to avoid extra costs? If your shopping basket states that VAT is included, then you’re safe! You won’t have to pay any costs later.
