Accessibility statement

Bpost is committed to ensure digital accessibility of its website and mobile applications, in accordance with the EU Web Accessibility Directive regarding the accessibility of websites and mobile applications for applications of institutions compensated by the Belgian government.

This statement applies to the iOS and Android versions of the mobile application “My bpost”.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

At the moment of writing, our application is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

This statement has been updated on August 1st 2024 and is based on an external accessibility audit carried out by Eleven Ways on August 1st 2024. This audit consisted of an in-depth analysis by an IAAP certified accessibility expert.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of our application, accessibility issues have been observed on several screens. Those include :

Android version

Missing or inaccurate text alternatives on images
Limited keyboard support
Missing headings
Not supporting the landscape orientation
Form elements not grouped with their visible label
Insufficient colour contrast on text and controls
Missing attributes and roles on some controls, limiting Talkback support
Error messages not announced by Talkback
Missing labels on buttons and input fields
Form elements not providing sufficient instructions and error suggestions
Document “General terms and conditions” not accessible with Talkback
Mandatory fields not announced as such on some forms

iOS version

In addition to the issues described for the Android version, the issues found in the iOS version include :

Not supporting text resize
Informational content ignored by VoiceOver
Inadequate focus order on some screens
Loading spinner not announced by VoiceOver
Focused elements obscured by floating UI elements
Insufficient target size on the map’s controls

There is no alternative provided yet for those limitations. Remediating those issues is our priority.

How does the worry-free option work?

Bring your official plate, unpackaged, to a nearby Post Office.

Our staff verify right away that it’s an official and valid plate. Only official license plates will be deregistered by the DIV.

You receive a proof of deposit by email, including your plate number and the deposit date. With your tracking code, you can easily follow your plate via the My bpost app or Track & Trace. Your plate reaches the DIV within 2 working days.

Until your plate is officially deregistered:

you still pay road tax

you are liable for any potential fines

your car insurance remains active

Why can I only ship without a label or packaging via a bbox locker with a screen?

Currently, only bbox lockers with a screen are equipped to handle this Pack and label-free service. We didn’t want to keep you waiting to try it out!

Can I still use a box to send my stuff?

We recommend minimal protection, such as placing your items in a paper bag or wrapping them in newspaper.  However, you can still use a box if you prefer. For more details, please check our terms and conditions.

What can't I send and what are the maximum dimensions?

Please review our list of prohibited goods to ensure your shipment is allowed. Make sure your items weigh less than 10kg and fit within these maximum dimensions: 

Length: 48 cm 
Width: 32 cm 
Depth: 20 cm

You can also ship multiple items as long as they stay within these size limits.

How can the recipient and I track my shipment?

Track your shipment easily through the ‘Send’ menu in the My bpost app. Your recipient can do the same via the ‘Receive’ menu.  Alternatively, use Track & Trace with your barcode. Once the mail carrier delivers your shipment to the recipient’s bbox locker, they’ll receive an email or app notification.

How long will my parcel be available at the recipient’s bbox locker?

Your shipment will remain available for 5 days for collection. If it is not collected, it will automatically be returned to your home address.

On 1 July, the European Union introduced new customs rules for online purchases from outside the EU. We assume that most major non-European webshops are compliant with the new EU regulations by now. So you can continue shopping there with peace of mind, without the risk of extra costs. And you can easily check: if your shopping basket shows that VAT is included, then it’s safe!

Shop in a registered webshop

Non-European webshops can register with the EU to settle VAT and import charges in advance. Make as many of your purchases as possible from these registered webshops. That way, not only is the process smoother but you also pay less.

Tip: registered webshops will always state in your shopping basket whether VAT is included.

Why choose a registered webshop?

A registered webshop has adapted to the new EU legislation and implements the European One-Stop Shop (IOSS) system. The webshop includes the VAT and import charges at sale. How can I recognise an IOSS registered webshop?

bpost receives your personal data (first name, surname, email address, phone number, delivery address) from the parcel shipper.

This data is processed by bpost (Boulevard Anspach 1/1, 1000 Brussels), the data controller, in accordance with the contractual stipulations agreed with the shipper, with a view to delivering the parcel and, where applicable, enabling you to track your parcel delivery status on our track and trace platform or in our mobile app.

Your email address and phone number may be used by bpost to notify you of the date and approximate time of delivery of your parcel or to tell us your delivery preferences with regard to your future parcels.

In order to evaluate the services related to the delivery of your parcel (including our emails, websites, applications, products and services), and in particular to make their design more user-friendly and efficient, bpost may process your email address and click behavior. The data collected are aggregated by bpost into click rates and used exclusively in that aggregated form.

Your address, as shared with bpost by the shipper, may also be used by us to make your future online shopping experience even more convenient by filling out your address details automatically.

This personal data may be available to our IT service providers, which may be located outside the European Economic Area. In this case, the measures described in the model contractual clauses of the European Commission are imposed on them.

Your personal data will be kept for 13 months after the delivery of your parcel and then erased, unless you register with our parcel delivery preference service. In certain circumstances, you may also access your personal data, have it corrected where applicable, have it erased, restrict its processing or request its portability by signed and dated written request, enclosing proof of your identity, by post to bpost, Data Protection Office, Boulevard Anspach 1/1, 1000 Brussels or online through the link to the form in our General Privacy Policy at: www.bpost.be/en/privacy.

You may file a complaint with the relevant authority in Belgium if no reply to this request is received via www.dataprotectionauthority.be

We’ll handle the rest—providing extra priority, real-time alerts for address errors, and updates on any unexpected delays.

If your funeral service provider does not offer this service, or if you prefer not to ask them, simply skip the first step on this page. Hand your addressed letters (no stamps required) directly to a Post Office employee, who will bag and label them for you. Payment is handled at the bpost counter, and you will still benefit from priority processing and receive alerts in case of issues.

How much does that cost?

Each delivered card/letter will cost the price of a PRIOR sending (see Quantity-pricing for 0-50 g letters). If you were given the red bag by your funeral service provider, they will invoice you the full cost after the funerals. If you drop your letters/cards directly at the Post Office, you will pay the total amount upfront.

What happens if I send memorial invitations abroad?

You can also include these in your red mourning bag. The price for these specific ones will be updated automatically. But note that we can’t guarantee a Prior treatment abroad, nor can we ensure the address is right. Delivery period is usually:

To our neighbouring countries: 2 to 3 working days
To other European countries: 3 to 6 working days
To the rest of the world: 5 to 20 working days

How does bpost alert me in case of errors or delays?

If an address error is picked-up upon sorting your letters and cards, your funeral service provider is automatically updated and can warn you through the appropriate channel. If you haven’t received the red mourning bag from your provider but brought your letters to bpost yourself, we’ll send you an e-mail on the provided e-mail address.

Can I still use stamps?

Regular stamps or mourning stamps are still available but don’t guarantee the extra care and priority as the red mourning bag, for which we send automatic updates to your funeral service provider.

What is the allowed format for my letters or cards?

The mourning red bag can only be used letters or cards of standardized format:

A4 folded in 3 (210 x 99 mm) or A4 folded in 4 (148 x 99 mm)
Maximum thickness: 5 mm
Minimum dimensions: 90 x 140 mm
Maximum dimensions: 125 x 235 mm
Rectangular only (not square)
Less than 50 g

If your cards or letters exceeds these, send them with regular prior stamps, following the applicable rules.

Can I use my franking machine with the new red memorial bag?

No, a franked envelope can cause issues with automatic processing and tracking of memorial invitations. Therefore, do not use a franking machine when using the red memorial bag.

Note: You can still use your franking machine for memorial invitations, but they will be sent through the traditional priority mail circuit and will not benefit from our new approach.
