What is an HS code?

HS stands for Harmonized System .This is a uniform system of codes used by customs worldwide to identify goods. Each type of goods has its own HS code, ranging from animals, plants, textiles, machines, weapons, stones and metals to furniture, toys, art, drinks and chemical products. When a shipment crosses the borders of the European Union, it passes through customs in the country of destination. For these dutiable shipments, the 6-digit HS code is required on the mandatory CN23 form. Based on the code, customs will calculate the import duties after which the shipment can be released. The My bpost app will not be able to connect to the Parcel Locker if: Your smartphone does not have access to your location and/or Bluetooth on your smartphone is not enabled. You are not standing in front of the correct locker. Always check the exact address and number of the Parcel Locker in the e-mail you have received from us (sometimes there are 2 lockers in the same street). Your parcel has been returned to the sender. This happens when you do not pick up your parcel after 5 working days. You can always find the latest pick-up date in the e-mail you have received from us (or in the My bpost app).
If the barcode of your international shipment does not start with the letter "U", then you can easily trace it and thus track it online. A barcode with the letter “U” is only used to enable the import procedure and to present the shipment to Belgian customs. After release, it will be handed over to bpost without further tracking. The barcode can be found in our communications (My bpost app, e-mail or sms), on the receipt from the Post Office and on the note the postman left in your letterbox. To track your shipment, make sure to enter the complete barcode on Track & Trace or in the My bpost app.
When the postman rings your doorbell to deliver a parcel, you can also give him another parcel that you want to send. This is handy if you want to return a parcel to a webshop, for example. There are, however, a few conditions before you can hand your parcel to the postman: Your parcel must be ready for shipmen with the shipping or return label attached. Your parcel cannot weigh more than 30 kg. The postman will only accept your parcel if he needs to deliver another one to your address, so you can't just leave it next to your letterbox. Bear in mind that the postman can refuse your parcel if it does not meet the conditions, or if he cannot take it with him safely.
Did you send your postcard via the app before 3 p.m.? Because we then print and send your card the same day. If you sent the card to an address in Belgium as 'Priority' mail, it should be delivered the first day after it has been made. If the card is sent as 'Non-priority', it should be delivered within three working days. bpost also delivers parcels for DHL in Belgium. You must attach a valid DHL shipping label on your return shipment. Your parcel will be delivered to the original sender by DHL. A parcel that is delivered by a different postal service can always be sent back with bpost. In that case, you must purchase a shipping label via our website, in our eShop or in a Post Office, Post Point or Parcel Point. You send your return shipment as regular mail. The price depends on the weight, the size and the destination. Use our online tool to calculate the price of your parcel. One of our partners is responsible for the delivery of your return shipment outside Belgium.
Your parcel does not receive extra protection if you send it in a bpost box. If you want extra protection, choose the ‘With warranty’ shipping option. In case of loss or damage, you will be reimbursed for the value of the contents of your shipment (up to max. €500). More information about the calculation of this compensation . You can select this mailing option when creating a shipping label via the online shipping tool. Or go to a Post Office or Post Point near you and ask the counter clerk to send your parcel with warranty. You can also choose the ‘With warranty’ option for parcels sent abroad.
