Explanatory note: Why does bpost need to know your personal details?

1. What information do we keep?

We store some of the information that you give us in our customer database. bpost, limited company under Belgian law, Centre Monnaie, 1000 Brussels is responsible for processing this information. Only the members of staff of bpost that have a real need of your personal information to do their job have access to the database. Issues concerning the right of access, the right of correction and the right of objection are handled by a special service: Privacy Service, WTC II, chaussée d'Anvers 59, 1000 Brussels.

  • A. Basic information: surname, first name, street, house number, country postcode, place of residence, gender, language, nationality, date of birth, place of birth, ID card type, ID card number, ID card date of validity.
     
  • B. Any additional information: type of customer, title, occupation, bpost staff, bpost-specific customer details, phone, fax and email, civil status.

2. How do we collect your personal information?

The personal information you provide is stored in our database at the counter. Other collection sources are philately subscriptions and purchases, bpost bank/bpost banque customer information and reply coupons. We wish to collect our customer information in a more customer focused and secure way. We will ask you to submit your ID card when you register or when you wish to check the information pertaining to you in our database. We require a copy of your ID card to simplify our ID check in the event of financial transactions.

3. What do we do with your information?

We use your personal information for three purposes:

  1. 1. To ensure the service you request is perfectly done.
     
  2. 2. To provide you with information on other bpost products and services.
     
  3. 3. In some cases, to share them with bpost partners that wish to send you relevant offers or information.

4. What's in it for you?

It's good for you because it ensures we have correct information, so that we do not confuse you with anyone else. You only need to give us your information once. Your information is entered into our database and corrected in your presence, so you can immediately see what information is being collected.

We can quickly retrieve your information by searching on name and postcode the next time you conduct a transaction, saving you time. We can speed up the process when your information is already in our database. You can receive up-to-date information on our products and services, but only if you wish to. You can also opt out at the counter.

When you are registered in our database you reduce the risk of fraud or wrongly addressed payments with regard to financial transactions, which can involve high sums, letter boxes and postal proxies.
